After arriving in Hoedspruit, you collect your rental car and settle into the Greater Kruger region. The following day can be spent exploring the surrounding area, including optional excursions along the Panorama Route with viewpoints such as God’s Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes and Blyde River Canyon. Hoedspruit also offers bush walks, wildlife centres and relaxed safari lodge surroundings.

Continue into the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Your stay includes morning and afternoon game drives with experienced guides and trackers. The reserve is known for excellent wildlife sightings and a quieter safari experience away from the busier public areas.

The journey continues to the renowned Sabi Sands Game Reserve, one of South Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations. The reserve shares unfenced borders with Kruger National Park and is particularly known for close wildlife encounters and exceptional leopard sightings.

Leaving the bush behind, you travel south into Eswatini. Rolling hills, local markets and cultural experiences offer a completely different side of Southern Africa. The slower pace and scenic landscapes make this a great transition between safari and coast.

Continue towards the coastline of KwaZulu-Natal and the small town of St. Lucia, located within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The region is known for its wetlands, beaches, estuaries and diverse wildlife. Optional activities include boat cruises, wildlife drives, snorkelling and visits to Cape Vidal where the bush meets the Indian Ocean.

After breakfast, you drive to Durban Airport where you return your rental car and continue your onward journey.
If you would like to explore more of South Africa, this journey can easily be combined with Cape Town and the Garden Route for additional coastal scenery, wine regions and outdoor experiences. A few extra nights in the Drakensberg or along the beaches of KwaZulu-Natal also make a great addition to the route.
